Ski & Snowboard Guide
Isola 2000 isn’t the most attractive of resorts, but it offers snow all season and good snow at that. Offering 120 km of downhill, boarders can also enjoy one of the most popular snow parks in the alps. The resort organizes functions like live concerts, barbecues and similar parties all year round making it a sociable kind of joint for all ages. As a purpose built resort, it has really excellent facilities from lifts, to hotels to the design of the pistes themselves.
The Snowbarding
Isola gave birth to the first ever snowboard club called the “Back to Black Club” which has been developed over the years so that it now provides slope insurance and specific lift ticket rates for boarders. Overall it’s a very boarder friendly place. Due to its very high altitude the snow is generally great with lots of fresh powder. Along with the snow part there is also a great boarder cross and half pipe. As a resort that has really focused on developing and welcoming boarders, the freestyling options are really accessible to all levels, including second to none instruction.
Beginner’s have a good sized nursery area with a few wide greens for practicing those first few turns. Once you’ve mastered the basics there is a plethora of varying blue and red pistes that will keep most boarders engaged for a full week. The pisted options for advanced boarders are fairly limited but this is made up for by substantial off piste and the challenging modules in the snow park.
Isola is known to have a snow record and provides several skis and snowboarding packages. It also takes its guests to a cross-country skiing trip for children during their summer vacations. They are taught how to ski and snow board and made to sight-see the countries buildings and places.
There is also good provision for free riders with wooded areas accessible from all over the mountain.
Where to Stay
There’s not much in the way of true upmarket chic in Isola 2000, but you will find plenty of reasonably priced apartments and hotels that are clean and functional. In particular check out three-star Hôtel Le Druos or self-catering Résidence Les Terrasses d’Isola.
Where to Eat
Try La Raclette for, well, delicious Raclette – a must-have delicacy when in the region. You can also get a good raclette in the Marmotte.
La Valette is a cosy option on the mountain with deliciously different menu options. Try the Cow Club for amazing pizza.
Après Shred
Isola 2000 is a pretty buzzy resort and regularly arranges events, parties, barbeques and boarding competitions. Aside from these special events there is also a host of good bars and clubs to be enjoyed every night of the week. The Snowball Bar is the social centerpiece of the village and is a bowling alley – cum bar. If you’re in the market for some late night dancing check out Le Cuba Loca. Or for a more relaxed, sophis vibe try La Rhumerie.
For family après options you can take the little one’s for a delightful sleigh ride or ice-skating or tobogganing.
