Avoriaz Accommodation

Avoriaz is high and purpose built, and well-known for its bike-in/bike-out accommodation, offering instant access to some great trails. The resort’s central location in the vast Portes du Soleil means you’re closer to some of the quieter trails towards Châtel and Champéry-Morgins in Switzerland. Avoriaz is car-free, so if you’re driving, you can park your car in the out of town car park and forget about it until the end of your trip. And, the centre is a lot quieter than Morzine, but you’ll still find some good bars and restaurants for relaxing and refuelling after a hard day’s biking.

Here are some accommodation options that provide easy access to the trails and are close to bars and restaurants:

Avoriaz Guide

Avoriaz in the Portes du Soleil is one of 14 resorts on the French-Swiss border that share more than 650 km of mountain bike trails and 24 lifts open to mountain biking. This puts Avoriaz at the centre of the most extensive network of mountain bike trails in the world, and all accessible with one lift pass.

The downhill tracks accessible from Avoriaz are unrivalled in the Alps, but the riding isn’t restricted to downhill, you’ll find plenty of freeride runs through the trees with features including jumps, drops and berms, plus cross-country singletrack, a pump track and leisurely family trails along the river. Ride everything from high-altitude rocky terrain, tree-lined trails and fast open runs through alpine meadows. Avoriaz is a mountain biking Mecca.

Here are some of our favourite trails in Avoriaz:

Avoriaz has trails for every level of mountain biker, from gentle green family runs to gnarly black descents. For riders looking for flowy fun, the blues in and around Avoriaz hit the sweet spot. Once you’re comfortable riding blues, take on the reds for steeper, faster sections and bigger jumps and berms.

One of my favourites is La Bleue d’Avoriaz, a classic blue run that winds down from the top of the Proclou lift. It’s wide, perfectly sculpted, and ideal for building confidence, with berms and rollers that invite you to pick up speed or simply cruise and enjoy the alpine scenery.

Stepping up the pace, La Roue Libre, a red trail accessible from Avoriaz, offers a brilliant mix of fast sections and technical corners, but without being too punishing. It’s a great trail for intermediate riders looking to push themselves a bit further.

For advanced riders craving more challenge, Avoriaz also delivers. Trails like The Hattock, a black run on the Avoriaz side, promise steeper gradients, tighter switchbacks, and more technical features to test even experienced riders. The Portes du Soleil as a whole offers countless options for big mountain riding, but Avoriaz’s local black runs are a brilliant way to sample that intensity without venturing too far.

Families and beginners shouldn’t miss the Super-Morzine area, easily reached via lift from Avoriaz. Here, you’ll find gentle green and easy blue trails perfect for kids or those just starting out. These runs are smoother and less steep, weaving through forests and meadows with beautiful views towards Morzine, making them a perfect introduction to downhill riding.

With lift connections linking Avoriaz to Les Gets, Morzine, and Châtel, it’s easy to combine your favourite Avoriaz trails into bigger days exploring the vast Portes du Soleil network. Whether you’re seeking high-speed blues, technical reds, gnarly blacks, or family-friendly cruising, Avoriaz sits at the centre of it all.
