Best Tide and Wind for La Gravière & La Sud
La Gravière is Hossegor’s famous sandbank barrel — a beach break that peaks on a mid-to-low tide with a clean W or NW groundswell. Light offshore wind, blowing from the east, is what keeps the tube hollow and glassy on the cam. Onshore wind blows it out fast, so check first thing in the morning before the sea breeze fills in.
La Sud sits further along the beach and holds size better than La Gravière. So when La Gravière closes out on a bigger swell, La Sud often still has a rideable shoulder. Scan both ends of the cam before you paddle out.
When Hossegor Fires
Hossegor’s biggest swells arrive during the autumn groundswell season, from August through November, when Atlantic storms send clean, powerful lines onto the Landes coast — the same window that draws the pro surf tour to nearby Capbreton. Summer still delivers fun, smaller waves, but afternoons often turn choppy once the local sea breeze fills in.
Use the webcam to time your session. Check it early or late in the day for the cleanest conditions, and look for a moderate swell with light or no wind before you head down.
